Mallya names Bangalore Team After Booze

Vijay Mallya, the owner of the Bangalore Team, has named the team “Bangalore Royal Challengers”. What a nice name, no? Except that “Royal Challenge” is the name of one of United Breweries (Vijay Mallya’s flagship company) top brands. Co-incidence? I think not.
Advertising liquor is strictly banned in India, but that doesn’t stop the proxy-advertising. They’ve been doing it with “Royal Challenge Golf Accessories”, “McDowell’s No.1 Soda”, “Kingfisher Airlines” etc…, and this is just another one of them. It seems Vijay Mallya isn’t even apologetic about this. He claims one of the reasons he paid the high price that he did for the Bangalore team ($ 116 Million) is so that he could advertise his liquor brands. Oh, well.
