Crowe, Prasad join Bangalore Royal Challengers

Martin CroweThe Vijay Mallya owned Bangalore IPL franchise, The Royal Challengers, have roped in New Zealand’s legendary captain Martin Crowe to be the “Chief Cricket Officer”, whatever that means. The Indian team’s Venkatash Prasad has also signed up to the be coach.

What kind of stratergy is Mallya looking at for the Royal Challangers? We reported earlier that Charu Sharma had joined as the “Chief Executive Officer”, which seemed like just a fancy name for a PR person, but it seems something more is going on. Crowe became famous for introducing radical strategies in the ODI format of the game back when it was new. He was the first to open the bowling with a spin bowler, and rapidly shuffle around bowlers to prevent the batsman from settling down.

Martin Crowe is definitely a great additional to the Bangalore team. The Twenty20 format, being relatively new, has a lot of such strategies and tactics just waiting to be discovered, and I’ll bet the IPL will be a mushrooming ground for exactly these.
