ICC flip-flopping on exclusive window for the IPL

The ICC Chief Executive Officer Malcolm Speed on Sunday reportedly said that the ICC was considering giving the IPL an exclusive window so that all the players are available to play in the richest Twenty20 tournament in the world. This is a complete reversal from ICC’s earlier stand which was that “Nothing could be done till 2012″. The ICC has scheduled tournaments till 2012, and said it “may consider” giving an exclusive slot to the IPL.
The ICC seems to have a love-hate relationship with the Twenty20 league. On the one hand, it hates the IPL because it is hijacking the ODI and international cricket in general, but on the other hand, it knows how important this league is to world cricket. I think ICC’s real problem is that it doesn’t know whether it likes the IPL or hates it!
