Round 2 auction next week?

Mar 5th, 2008 | By sandeeps | Category: News

round2After the historic auction on Feb-20, BCCI is planning to conduct second round of auction next week. According to a cricinfo report, the participants of this auction will be only the team management who have money left in their kitty. As we all know that the minimum cap is USD 3.3 million and the maximum is USD 5 million. The Jaipur team will have upper hand in round-2 as they had spent less than minimum cap in round-1.

Well, everyone’s initial reaction will be that only Jaipur team will be lone participant. It’s not the case, the report also talks about a guideline which may be new to many of us. The rules say that if a player is expected to be either completely unavailable or available for less than four of the IPL matches in 2008, 25% of the player fee bid for that player in the auction will count against the $5m purse. This is relevant to franchise who have hired Australian and Pakistani players who are not available for the complete league.

Also, it will be interesting to see whether the auction will include players who were part of winning squad which won the recent U-19 world cup. In my opinion the franchise will be more keen to hire them because their performance to price ratio will be high.
