“Knight Riders”? Really?

I know this is really immature and all, but KnightRiders is an absolutely ridiculous name for a cricket team. It sounds so kiddish. Do you folks remember the serial KnightRider that used to come on DD in the 90s? The one with the talking car? So cheesy. And I can’t imagine why SRK would go and name his team after a talking car with a bleeping red light on the front.
Oh, but it gets better. If you’ve not had the chance to look at the Kolkata team’s ads, you must go and see them. I can’t decide whether to laugh or to cry after watching them. The ads look like a bunch of zombies from the video game “half-life” that have been let loose on the cricket pitch. And the ads are so silly. In one of them they’re playing football, in another they’re dancing and in yet another the dude is chewing cricket balls! And what’s with the gladiator helmet? That went out of fashion in 200 BC, for gods sake!
Kolkata is not the only one with a weird name. The “Mumbai Indians” doesn’t sound right to me either. I keep thinking of native americans with peacock feathers doing the tribal dance whenever someone says “Mumbai Indians” to me. Even the Jaipur team has picked a silly name, in my opinion. Calling yourself “Jaipur Royals” especially after the Bangalore team is called “Royal Challengers” sounds a bit odd to me. Looks like someone forgot to do their homework.
Anyway, all this is only fun and timepass, as the name probably doesn’t weigh in heavily on the team’s performance. I sure hope so, for the Kolkata team’s sake!

LOL …. now the only team which hasn’t announced the name yet is Mohali … i am afraid they may name their team something like ‘Mohali Yuvrajs’ to continue the ‘Royal’ obsession and to motivate their out of form iCon player !
Mahooligans would be a nice name
Hehe… How about “Mad Mohicans”
Mad Mo Halli Warriors ?
Mohali Mockers
It’s not that bad…can’t be worse than Mumbai Indians! Has a touch of glamour and attitude to it - something that Shahrukh is aiming for. By the way, I do like the structure of your blog - how did you manage to get the Navigation Menu tabs at the top? Do leave a message at my blog or email!

I’m not so sure that the name will not come into play. The game is going to be all about glamour and the kind of eyeballs it can attract. In this regard, I really feel SRK is going to come out on top, the publicity maniac that he is. Knight Readers are going to be everywhere on TV. They have even got their t-shirts emblazoned with HDIL logos. I agree their ads are cheesy, but I’m sure they are going to sell the maximum T-shirts and other gear.
For all you know, they might turn up on field with those gladiator helmets and the next day you will find all pulsar maniacs riding on the streets with them.
But seriously, I don’t know what Mukesh was thinking naming his team Mumbai Indians, that is so uninspired. And is it really necessary to include the city name in your team name? Obviously with just 8 teams, people are going to know.
How anout ‘Mohali Zeintas’
Sid, you make a very good point. The publicity angle for the name will also make a big play. I just keep imagining people on bikes wearing the Kolkata-Gladiator helmets! LOL!
“Mohali Zeintas” LOL! That’s the best one I’ve heard!
Well, the best I have heard is Mohali Disco Dancers. And Jaipur Porn-Kings
The Best names I heard were in the Orkut Cricket Community(OCC) .
This is the best set of them :
Bangalore - Crawlers
Chennai - Obnoxious Weeds.
Hyderabad - Crybabies.
Mumbai - Selfishers.
Kolkatta - Platform Builders.
Mohali - Disco Dancers.
Delhi - Fatso XI
Jaipur - Porn Kings
Man the names of the Premier Hockey League and ICL are so friggin’ COOL…
And these are unsuccessful leagues…(though PHL is successful in north)…
Why do they have such kiddish names….????
Anyways, the kolkata team is the best and it’s jersey is kewl…I love the promo video of it and then there’s SRK…he plays to win…
Mohali Might…..just have a good name.
