Ground Realities

IPL seems to churn out news with every passing day before its start on April 18, 2008. This time it is the case of CCI (Cricket Club of India) refusing to host IPL matches at Brabourne Stadium, Mumbai. Apparently, CCI had offered its ground to IPL but not the clubhouse and the club members’ children’s enclosure. This stand by CCI was not acceptable to IPL and Reliance Industries, owners of Mumbai franchise. CCI in its statement has said that it is merely protecting the rights of the members of the CCI to see all matches from the club house without paying for it. Mumbai is slated to host 10 IPL matches which includes 7 matches of Mumbai team, semifinals and final.
Well, as of now there are 7 grounds in IPL’s kitty. Here is the list of grounds where the matches will be played.
As far as Mumbai is concerned, it has to now schedule the matches in either Wankhede Stadium (for which renovation work is planned) or DY Patil stadium. Meanwhile, on the other side, ground scarced ICL has scheduled its on-going tournament matches in 3 stadiums namely
ICL has taken Tau Devi Lal Stadium, Panchakula of 20,000 capacity on lease for a period of 10 years.
