IPL paying retention fee to stop from moving to ICL?

This is getting a little absurd. The are rumors flying around that the IPL is paying some players free money, just to stop them from defecting to the rival ICL league! Just what is happening here?
The IPL yesterday, through it’s rich daddy BCCI, strongarmed the ICC to officially recognize the IPL as a valid league while successfully blocking the ICL from being recognized by the ICC. This is very bad news for the ICL, and it means even more conflict and pain to get players, venues and even umpires!
The rivalry between the IPL and ICL is good in many ways, as the increased competition is leading to lot of innovation and oppurtunity, but this kind of bikering can’t be good for anyone! What is the IPL expecting these players to do? Just take the money and sit and watch the matches? If they can’t play for you, why stop them from playing with the other league?
