The money that the IPL is bringing in for the BCCI and Sony is skyrocketing. The tally that the sponsors have agreed to fork out stands very close to Rs 500 Crores today! With each new day, comes good news. Today, Kingfisher announced that it had bought the rights to the “umpiring” parts of the game - The logos on the umpires shirts and also on the screen when the 3rd umpires decision is pending for a shocking Rs 106 crores!
Vijay Mallya is going full steam into this. Another shocking move is that despite owning the Bangalore team, Kingfisher, is now also the associate sponsor of the Delhi team! The enthusiasm of Kingfisher (a booze brand) can be attributed to the legal ban on advertising by alcoholic brands, but the others DLF paying Rs 200 crores for the title sponsorship, Pepsi apparantly forking out Rs. 50 Cores and Hero Honda shelling out a whopping Rs 90 crores.
It looks like the IPL is a financial success (at least for the BCCI and Sony) even before the first ball has been bowled!
