Kolkata Police to charge for Secutity
Mar 25th, 2008 | By Aditya | Category: News
The Kolkata police want to send SRK’s Red Chillies Entertainment that owns the Kolkata team a bill for organizing security for all the IPL matches that will be played at Eden Gardens. They even had a meeting, apparently, at the headquaters where they discussed parking, traffic and other stuff. There are no details, however, on how much money the cops are going to charge, but the police big boss said “the amount of money will be decided through negotiations”
Oh, don’t we all know what that means? Besides, are the cops allowed to charge to providing security? Isn’t it their job?

Nothing new in that. Even for normal international matches, the local associations (ksca in bangalore) have to pay the state government for providing security. By that I don’t mean bribing. You can ask for security for any event where a crowd is expected (music concerts, etc) and get it after paying the prescribed fee.
Yes, but does that mean that we have to “hire” the police to provide security? Aren’t they supposed to do it by default?
Yes, when you are organizing events and gathering a crowd, you have to pay for that security. Of course, you can choose not to, but then if something untoward happens, then the organizers will be held responsible. Police are not expected to provide security at private establishments (and a stadium is a private area, remember - it belongs to the local association).
Hmm… You have a good point about the private establishment.
