SA vs India series kicks off - But who’s watching?

Mar 27th, 2008 | By Aditya | Category: News

south-africa-india.jpgThe South Africa vs India test series kicked off yesterday, but it is patently lacking the usual hype and hoopla of a test series for some reason. MTV had a very interesting segment today where they went out on the street and asked people about the series - Where it was being held, who were the captains and other simple questions. But shockingly, most people couldn’t properly answer the questions.

But the real kicker came for me when these same folks were asked about the IPL - And they seemed to know even the more intrecate details - Who owns which teams, what ads are running, and how much the players were paid for.

This is, in some ways, the nightmare come true for the ICC and the other boards. It is starting to look like the IPL is becoming a huge deal and if the people - especially those of India, cricket’s largest market - start ignoring the international tours, it is going to be very bad news for the other cricket boards.

Wait and watch what happens! :)

  1. Even DoorDarshan which used to have last minute spats for sharing feeds with private channels has gone mum and not showing the matches stating event is not of national importance. Add to this, even All India Radio(AIR), age old companion for Cricket in India, too not airing commentries! More details in cricinfo - http://content-uk.cricinfo.com/indvrsa/content/story/343902.html

  2. Muhahahahahaha….

I hope this happens. But the world cups and champions trophy will still continue to rock. and the SA-IND was not hyped by the news channels and news papers also.
