IPL Team ads start rolling in

Apr 2nd, 2008 | By Aditya | Category: Teams, Top Stories

With about 2 weeks remaining for the first match to kick off, the teams have started off with their advertising campaigns. But I’m kinda disappointed with the quality of the ads. I mean, I was expecting a big bang advertising campaign by the teams to make use of the tremendous hype and interest, but so far, the ads have turned out to be quite boring. Check out this Mohali Ad featuring Preity Zinta

And then there’s the Jaipur Rajasthan Royal’s team anthem “Halla Bol”. I like the ad and the concept but I’m not a fan of the music. It sounds very… what’s the right word… old fashioned. Somehow I don’t think the Jaipur folks have warmed up to the idea of an Australian leading their team. Warne barely makes an appearance in the ad.

And then there’s the Kolkata KnightRiders ad. It has a distinct item-number feel to it, and its in Bengali, so I didn’t get even 2% of it. Also, as much as I like SRK, I’m not sure about the whole video being about him. I mean, I barely saw a bat and ball, forget the rest of the team.

Well, I hope the rest of the ads are better.

  1. I guess this shabby job is because of the time involved in making a good ad. The players never seem to be free and it’s not been that long since the auctions were done with.

So the marketers are not really left with too man options other than feature the brand ambassadors hoping to catch some eyeballs in this way. For everyone is India knows, SRK sells.

I do wish that they would have waited and come out with better ads.

  2. This might form so thing new. This is realy exiting.
