IPL Media Restrictions Battle Turning Sour

After the IPL announced some stupid media restrictions earlier this week which effectively prohibited online newspaper editions (including cricinfo) and blogs from using *ANY* pictures online, the media folks were predictable unhappy. The Editors Guild of India, an organization that represents print newspapers in India, today sent off a very angry letter to Lalit Modi complaning about the “unnecessary and impossible conditions”. They went so far as to threaten a complete media blackout of the IPL if the BCCI refuses to budge.
This is bad news for everyone. The BCCI absolutely needs to media to create the hype and hoopla around the IPL, and a boycott is going to ruin everybody. There was some talk earlier today about the BCCI rolling back the restrictions, but there have been no confirmed reports. I hope the BCCI doesn’t let this issue slide into a stupid civil war!
