Boycott gets real: Reuters and AFP not covering IPL
Apr 18th, 2008 | By Aditya | Category: News
The news agencies Reuters and the Associated Free Press, the top news feeding agencies for news papers around the world issued an advisory to all their subscribers today saying that no text will be reoported on any of the IPL games. Both the agencies are angry with the BCCI over the media restrictions that were dished out in a hurry last week. Since the BCCI refused to repeal the rules, Reuters and AFP are going to boycott.
This is bad news for international coverage. Newspapers in foreign countries absolutely depend on these agencies for any kind of coverage. BCCI has probably taken a calculated risk with this - It probably thinks it doesn’t need the international coverage so bad right now… It’s the domestic market that matters now.
