Two Tight Matches Bring Out The T20 Flavour!

Apr 20th, 2008 | By Aditya | Category: Top Stories

Mark BoucherIts exciting to see tight matches in the IPL, and both the matches today didn’t disappoint. Sachin was sitting out the Mumbai Indians vs Royal Challengers match, and Harbhajan was leading the side. Shaun Pollock played a lovely slog-overs innings to take the team to 165.

The total was very competitive, and when the Royal Challengers came out to bat, they looked much more confident that they did last time when McCullum totally screwed them. Everyone in the Bangalore side played useful innings, and Dravid even scoring 32 at run-a-ball. The match was looking to be at the wire with Boucher and Kallis at the crease. But Boucher hit this massive six that nearly went out of the stadium, that turned the game around for the Royal Challengers.

The win must have come as a relief for Dravid, who probably had an encounter with the tough Vijay Mallya after Friday’s loss.

Earlier in the day, the Kolkata KnightRiders were taking on the Deccan Chargers at Eden Gardens. The first thing that impressed me was the pitch. Arun Lal read the pitch perfectly, correctly predicting that it had something in it for the spinners.  It was not your average flat-as-a-table-top pitch, but it had something in it for the bowlers, especially the spinners. That was refreshing to see in the Twenty20 format that is undoubtedly a batsman’s game. The KnightRiders made the best of the pitch, with the spinners doing an impressive job. The Deccan Chargers were dismissed for a paltry 110, aided with some really good out-fielding.  The $1.2 million Symonds held things somewhat steady, but scoring at a less-than-impressive strike rate of 82 - Shockingly low for a T20 match.

The Kolkata KnightRiders did a very good job with the chase and always were looking in control. Other than the lights-off at Kolkata incident, it was a very nail-biting chase that Hussey took home with a very well played 38.

So, its looking good for the KnightRiders with 2 out of 2 wins! But don’t forget, each team plays 14 matches, so a long road ahead for everyone.

  1. Yes, both the matches yesterday were great boost for IPL. Best part for me was the crowd support home teams got at both the venues. Cricinfo talks about it here: http://content-usa.cricinfo.com/ipl/content/story/347145.html
