What Happened To The Slow Over Rate Rule?

So, if the bowling team is taking its own sweet time to finish up the bowling, in the ODI format of the game, they were peanlized by reducing the number of overs that they had to chase the total. But everyone seems to have forgotten this rule in the IPL! The Mumbai Indians were almost 25 minutes late finishing up their first over, and the match referee didn’t seem to mind.
I think that’s a bad idea. Teams should be peanized for going over their time limit, otherwise the crushing tension of the Twenty20 format will not be maintained. Bajji was taking his own sweet time setting the field, with each ball taking 3-4 minutes in the last over! And, as the commentators would say, the match referee should be peanalized with negative points on the “Fly Kingfisher Fair Play Award”.

I definately agree. Being an Aussie, most games don’t start until 12:15 am and the slow overs drags the game out for much longer than it should be.
A good Twenty20 game should be no longer than two and a half hours, with breaks. Back in the WSC days, 20 overs an hour was manageable and my local junior cricket association expects 20 overs an hour from its second division teams!
Yeah, it happened again today with the team bowling second late by over half-an-hour. I wonder what the right way to fix this problem is!
B/w the rule to reduce number of over no longer exists in ODI now. Only the captain is penalized with some % of his match fee. So it won’t exist in IPL
Secondary IPL is all about money and ads. So longer the game innings take the longer they can post ads.
So I don’t see any reason why IPL would interfere into this.
