Cellphone Cos Making Killing On IPL
May 3rd, 2008 | By Aditya | Category: News
The IPL has been such a boom to so many folks! I’m sure it’ll be enough to lift India’s GDP growth to 9%!
Jokes apart, Cellphone companies are seeing up to 15% increase in their so-called Value Added Services. These are the 3-rupees SMS and the other services like score updates, wallpapers, ringtones and other assorted crap. All this stuff is apparently making the companies Rs 600 crores A MONTH!
What I can’t figure out is that why people are spending good money on these “VAS” things when they can get the exact same thing for free on the net? Or even on newspapers? Because they can get it on their cell phones? But you can get GPRS on your phone and then use the web, and that’ll still be cheaper than the ridiculous prices the phone companies charge for these value added services.
Oh well, it seems there is a market for these kinds of things after all!

I think the answer may be the simplicity of it.
