Charu Sharma Gets Fired!
May 7th, 2008 | By Aditya | Category: News
I was wondering how long the hyper-businessman Vijay Mallya was going to take the dismal performance of the Bangalore Royal Challangers. I’m sure Dravid must have gotten a talking down, but it seems that the CEO of the team, Charu Sharma, bore the brunt of Mallya’s anger. He stepped down as the CEO of the team this morning.
Of course, the official statement is that he had to step down because of “personal reasons”, but I have a feeling that the “personal reason” was that Mallya asked him to resign personally.
Well, I can’t even get myself to feel sorry for Charu Sharma. I still don’t understand what a CEO is doing in a cricket team!

I think mallya has got up after a long sleep. This present situation was obvious from the auction day itself …. If I were to be in his place, I wud have fired Charu Sharma after the auction itself.
Let’s see when the when the turn of the captain come ? Because run a ball fifty is not sufficient in T20 format for a player of iconic status.
Was Charu Sharma the CEO of the team at the time of auction. If so, he is partly responsible for the selection of test veterans into t20 squad.+
That’s a very good point. But as far as I remember, he was appointed CEO after the auctions.
No, Charu was appointed CEO before the first round of auction. He was present at the auction along with Dravid. I see nothing wrong in sacking Charu.
You’re right Mohan. Dravid, Charu Sharma and Vijay Mallya, all 3 of them were there for both rounds of the auction.
charu finally was made to realise that playing cricket on TV is different than playing on field. I had a hearty laugh when vijay mallaya in a tv interview told “Charu promised me that a test team can play 20-20 equally well”, poor guy mallaya, anyways charu would have thought whose money is it anyways not mine and why should i bother when mallaya has already given me a fat cheque to take home.:-). good to see charu in the commentator’s box along with mandira bedi rather than seeing him in the strategist’s role.
is he charu sharma or chalu sharma. poor vijay mallya kept saying in the tv interview ” charu promised me that a test team can play 20-20 equally well”. also charu and mallaya had their comments on dravid while the wall like a true gentleman was as usual silent. long live the wall.
