A Look At The IPL Trophy
May 20th, 2008 | By Aditya | Category: News
The winner’s trophy for the inaugural season of the Indian Premier League was unveiled today by Lalit Modi in much fanfare. The trophy is apparently hand-made, and features diamond-encrusting. It has been designed by Orra, the diamond brand.
Oh, bugger. I’m just going to come out and say it: It looks silly. Looks like an India Map on a wooden board. It is probably something a 4th standard teacher would give a student who top-scored in geography. Its horrible. It certainly doesn’t look appealing, and the prominent DLF logo on top doesn’t help one bit.
And wait, it gets worse. The winning team isn’t going to get the trophy, but -get this- A REPLICA OF THE TROPHY!!! Now why the hell would you do that? It seems like some sponsor -probably DLF- paid for the trophy, but its too expensive with the silly diamonds to give away, so they’ll keep it for next year and give away a cheaper replica.

They better be joking. Just a look at that trophy makes me want to vomit. Lol, if they use that to present the winner in the finals it will be so ironic and a total anti-climax - a cheapass looking trophy in what has been a money fest. I bet even the players themselves could have made something more artistic. I just don’t know who let this trophy pass even its first stage of design. *pukes all over*
This looks like one of those maps used to teach 2nd graders abt India..
*****Top 8 reasons why the ‘Trophy’ is like it is:*****
———————————————————————
#8 - Modi wanted to do an Al Gore and requested the ‘Trophy’ be environment friendly/ bio-degradable.
#7 - Modi’s cousin is a kabaadi-wala (scrap dealer).
#6 - Mona Mehta wanted the ‘Trophy’ to divert the attention grabbed by the cheerleaders.
#5 - IPL wanted the ‘Trophy’ to be theft-deterrent.
#4 - IPL wants to mentally disintegrate the potential winning team by flashing pics of this trophy on the giant t.v. screens during the matches.
#3 - Pawar was getting the flak from his fellow politicians for making IPL T20 way too glamorous.
#2 - Raj Thackeray threatened to disrupt IPL matches in mumbai if any non-mumbaiite artisans worked on the ‘Trophy’.
#1 - IPL wants to discourage all franchises from becoming a winner so that it can keep the prize money.
Not to mention that it shows Azad Kashmir (or PoK for the Indians :)) as part of India which would make it awkward for the Pakistani players in the tournament to hold the trophy. The trophy looks gaudy, although the gold/ruby encrusted map of India does perfectly reflect what the BCCI has turned into.
