Mumbai Indians

Sachin MukeshHaving a kiddish name apart, the Mumbai IPL team boosts of two of the most destructive batsmen in ODIs from neighboring countries - master of Matara and the Little Master himself! These two can make a formidable opening pair in the IPL. Though Jayasuriya has already played 7 Twenty20 internationals and scored at an healthy average of 41, Sachin played his only Twenty20 international in South Africa when India toured SA in 2006. But that is just a statistic view, master has displayed his class whenever required.

But Robin Uthappa, one of the members of the victorious Indian Twenty20 world cup team, seems to be the only fire power in middle order though you can include Shaun Pollock in this list but occasionally. Though lacking in Twenty20 experience, Ashwel Prince is surely a candidate for No.4 with good ODI exposure. Well, you also have another opening batsmen in the form of Loots Bosman from South Africa, who has been carrying the reputation of being a hard hitting batsman. He could also be one of the pillars in the middle order as the opening slots are almost fixed.

In the bowling department Mumbai has some lethal weapons like Harbhajan Singh, Lasith Malinga, Shaun Pollock, Dilhara Fernando and now almost forgotten Ashish Nehra! But choosing among them would be a tough choice for Sachin as there is limit of 4 on overseas players playing per match. If you are going with 2 bowlers and 2 batsmen (all overseas), then I would think Lasith Malinga and Shaun Pollock should make up for the overseas bowling slots. Well, with Shaun Pollock you have a good batsman too! As far as Indian bowlers are concerned there should not be any hesitation in picking up Harbhajan and for Ashish Nehra, surely pick him if he is fit.

Leaving aside the big guns, you also have some young kids on the block like Pinal Shah, who is a specialist wicket keeper and a middle order batsman though has opened occasionally and Saurabh Tiwary, a south paw and a member of the world cup winning U19 team. Also you have Ajinkya Rahane, who is an all rounder, Abhishek Nayar who is a bowler who can bat too and Yogesh Takawale, who is one more candidate for wicket keeping position. I firmly believe it is these young lads who will make the difference in the team. All said and done, the Mumbai Indians will make formidable opponents!
